Overview:
The Nursing Director is the Registered Nurse designated by the Governing Board and is responsible for all aspects of patient care and adherence to regulatory guidelines. Must possess the ability to interact in a positive, energetic manner, with a highly skilled clinical proficiency to deliver excellent partnership with physicians and exhibit staff leadership in providing high quality care to patients. Participates in planning and budgeting with an understanding of fiscal responsibility in overall management of ASC.

Facility Description:
A busy single–operating room (OR) outpatient Ambulatory Surgical Center specializing in ophthalmic procedures, including cataract, corneal, and oculoplastic surgery. Due to continued growth, the center is expanding to a two-OR facility within the next year.

Accountability:
  • The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for all aspects of nursing care in the facility.
  • Assumes responsibility for all aspects of the ASC including: Pre-Op/PACU/OR/SPD/Clerical.
  • Responsible for Quality Improvement/Risk Management Program and ongoing education of staff.
  • Develops and maintains written objectives, policies and procedures, and a quality assurance program, goals, objectives for the nursing services, and reviews nursing policies and procedures on an ongoing basis
  • Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge
  • Reports to the ASC Administrator
  • The Nursing Director will assign a Registered Nurse in the ASC to be Charge Nurse, in the event of her/his absence.
  • In the absence of the Administrator, the DON will assume some of her/his responsibilities.

  • Ability to provide direction to others that is clear, concise and promotes efficiency throughout the clinical areas of the facility.
  • Sets priorities and maintains an efficient and safe staffing schedule in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Supervises the smooth functioning of the center.
  • Ability to communicate well with patients, families, staff and physicians.
  • Assesses, plans, evaluates and ensures the implementation of high-quality patient care.
  • Interviews, selects and retains qualified staff to meet facility needs.
  • Responsible for direction, teaching, engagement, and growth of staff.
  • Fosters a positive and professional facility environment by interacting with all persons in a considerate, helpful and courteous manner and by participating as a colleague, mentor and team leader.
  • Adheres to all regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Upholds and practices the principles and policies of Atlantic Surgery Center.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Active NJ Registered Nurse license.
  • Three years of nursing and management experience in a hospital setting or ambulatory surgery center.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification. PALS certification where necessary.
  • Experienced in Accreditation process and Regulatory requirements.
  • Strong knowledge in Nursing Principles, Practice and Procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, delegate effectively, and problem solve under pressure.
