Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our award-winning Ambulatory Surgery Center team. Under the direction and supervision of an RN, the Medical Assistant supports the safe, efficient, and compassionate care of surgical patients throughout the pre-operative and post-operative process.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced surgical environment, demonstrates excellent communication and organizational skills, and understands the importance of patient safety, privacy, teamwork, and attention to detail.
Essential Responsibilities
Patient Care – Pre-Operative and Post-Operative
- Assist with patient admission, preparation, and discharge.
- Verify patient identification and maintain HIPAA compliance and patient privacy.
- Provide compassionate patient support and ensure patient safety.
- Obtain and monitor vital signs and report changes in patient condition to the DON or RN.
- Obtain and remove IVs as directed and within applicable scope and training.
ASC Preparation and Supply Management
- Unpack and organize incoming boxes and supplies
- Maintain inventory of supplies and restock patient-care areas as needed.
- Ensure patient-care areas are clean, organized, and adequately stocked.
Patient Communication
- Contact patients prior to surgery to provide scheduled surgery times and important pre-operative information.
- Provide clear, professional, and compassionate communication with patients before and after their procedures.
- Assist with follow-up patient calls and other communications as directed.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in an ophthalmology, surgical, ASC, or healthcare setting preferred.
- Current CPR/BLS certification or ability to obtain certification as required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Education Requirement
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical Assistant certification
